Supporting start-up businesses

The main facts and findings why and what about start-up & small entrepreneurs should be informed and trained (based on a survey among Hungarian SMEs in 2003-4, covering a total of 700 thousand data):

- 33 % of the firms did not dispose of clear business objectives
- 62 % said they did not need elaborating a business plan, rejected even the idea of any kind of planning
- 49 % did not dispose of marketing plan, were unaware of the means and methods of marketing
- 57 % did not use informatics in their businesses
- 23 % of them stated that at least one person in the firm was able to communicate in a foreign language.

Following a thorough interrogation the following outstanding issues were determined as the main subjects for information and training in to help starting up businesses:

- Business planning, in particular preparing the business plan
- Financial management
- Marketing
- Human relations management
- Informatics
- Forms and methods of business co-operation

Of the above, the intention is to select in our project three subjects that could be presented in a satisfactory way so as to meet the requirements of the beneficiaries, i.e. business planning, marketing and business co-operation. This is because the rules and regulations of financial management and those relating the human relations management are supposed to depend in majority on actual national legal and cultural features, while the use of informatics is viewed as a special issue mainly determined by the professional and financial setting of the firms in question.

In below, the subject “business planning” is provided as a demonstration, with the other two subjects marking the planned contents.
